Uninterrupted electric power in a coal-fired generating plant depends on a reliable coal handling system. Coal is normally delivered to the plant by ship, barge, or railcar and stored before it is used. The stored coal serves as a buffer to guard against any potential interruption caused by transportation delays or other contingencies. From the storage yard, coal is reclaimed and conveyed to the bunkers to feed the boilers.
